Ok, so lately, I forgot the sites but, I have been reading comments that Elfen Lied is so beautiful and Higurashi was just a sick anime. Ok, I have watched Elfen Lied when I was in fourth grade (imagine a naive little child watching such a show with her dad XD) and Higurashi somewhere earlier this year. I don't remember the Elfen Lied anime that much, so in 2 days, I finished it.
So let me start this rant off now:
I will not tell you any synopsis so please just watch Higurashi and read Elfen Lied to understand. Let's start with Elfen Lied:
I first want to say what I think about it
An anime that made me feel plain disgusted and depressed. Let me start by introducing the characters ;DLucy (not including Nyu): Girl who has killing problems; Gets into killing mode when crush goes to festival with a freaking cousin
Kouta: Boy who chooses to trust suspicious girl over sister; Boy who believes for a second time that Lucy/Nyu is no murderer
Mayu: I would've accepted her as normal if she didn't think that all men were evil; Pedophilia?
Nana: Tortured since birth; Wants to be the wife of someone who she believed was her father; Her and Mayu are the best main chars throughout the series I guess
Yuka: Her problems: ABSOLUTELY FREAKING NOTHING YET SHE COMPLAINS THE MOST THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE D*MN SERIES! ITS AS IF SHE WANTS A DEPRESSING PROBLEM TO GET HIS OWN COUSIN'S ATTENTION!!!!!!!
Now that we got that over with let's get to the best and main part of this. ^^
Ok, so as we all probably know, Elfen Lied is a really gory series. BUT SO IS HIGURASHI, so I am not making any judgements here. But, it wasn't just the gore that disturbed me. One reason was:
You practically couldn't get through 5 panels without seeing the word kill or death. To me, if you guys think that's beautiful, then thats just even sicker. Second of all, at the end of the series, Lucy uses all her power to save Kouta and she melts to a blob. I felt that that part was unnecessary 'cause even though I feel this way for the manga, I still sorta like the anime. And Lucy melting with Kouta forced to kill her just depressed me. And to top it all off, they make the last chapter a happy one that takes place a few months after. Noone can just be plain happy after what happened my gosh. Just because you make an impossible chapter where everyone is cheerful and you "revive" a few characters, only makes it sound desperate so that you won't be called a monster.
Higurashi:
Characters:
Keiichi: Believes that killing is the solution to problems; Believes and supports no matter what (unlike Kouta)
Rika: In a pretty F'ed up situation; Old woman in reality
Rena: Most paranoid if you ask meh; D*mn scary D:
Shion: According to everyone, the scariest char of all even though it was 1-2 arcs; Does everything out of love (too much out of love if you ask meh again)
Mion: Killed noone; Most innocent char (?)
Not much to say because later in the series you KNOW that it was all caused by the Hinamizawa Syndrome. : Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, the series ends up turning to Rika's situation which shows why there are all sorts of arcs/worlds.
Now can you see which one is beautiful?
